You spent six years researching sustainable business practices before you segued into the luxury world in 2016, joining IWC as a senior corporate sustainability manager. What was that transition like?
It was a really dramatic shift. On one of the main projects I had been working on, I was conducing empirical research in Nairobi, Kenya, where I was interviewing households with the primary breadwinner making about $2 a day. I saw people buying toothpaste by the squeeze because they couldn’t afford a tube.
I went from a setting like that to the luxury watch industry, where a purchase of $10,000 to $20,000 is maybe not a big investment decision for some people. And this was something I really had to grapple with — am I comfortable in doing this? But I decided the industry has such a role in shaping societal notions of status that it is absolutely something to engage in.
You worked on top Breitling copy watches’ first sustainability report, which was published in fall 2021, in the midst of the pandemic. How did that affect what you focused on?
Because the pandemic was raging through Latin America, people were in some cases turning to illegal mining in order to be able to feed their families. As a result, we saw a huge uptick in Amazonian deforestation at that time. This is what we were discussing as we prepared the report. These are global challenges, and they’re happening regardless of your decision to source recycled gold. Just because you’re sourcing 1 kilogram of recycled doesn’t mean that somebody is not entering the Amazon River basin, contributing to illegal logging and removing mineral in order to be able to put food on the table.

We have 500 factories around the world; this is how much energy they’re using.” OK, thank you, but how am I supposed to digest this? Can you just tell me about the carbon in addition to the energy?
It’s also talking about the topics that have impact. A common topic I reference is recycling. At Breitling, all the steel we use for the 1:1 China super clone Breitling watches and built-in environments [boutiques] accounts for 1 percent of our carbon emissions. It matters, yes, but for us to speak about recycled still, we’d be avoiding the elephant in the room, which for our industry is the gold sourcing. Unlike some of Breitling’s collections, which are specifically dedicated to aviation or diving, the Chronomat is the brand’s all-purpose sports watch, and in addition to the two Breitling Chronomat Giannis Antetokounmpo watches that will be available to the public, the Swiss manufacturer has also created a piece-unique specifically for the NBA superstar himself.

Additionally, while the Chronomat B01 42 Giannis Antetokounmpo is available with a solid red gold Rouleaux bracelet, the model is also available with a dark green version of the brand’s Rouleaux-style rubber strap that is completed by a red gold folding clasp. This style of strap mirrors the appearance of the Rouleaux bracelet’s links. While it was first introduced to the 42mm Chronomat models on the limited-edition Super Bowl LVII watch, it will now also be available as a standard option for the rest of the Chronomat B01 42 series.
While the two new cheap super clone Breitling Chronomat Giannis Antetokounmpo watches will be produced as limited editions and sold to the public, the Swiss brand has also created a piece-unique version for Giannis himself that offers a rather unusual take on the chronograph model from the series. The one-of-a-kind watch is largely the same as its publicly-available siblings in terms of its overall design and construction, and it features a 42mm red gold case paired with a matching red gold Rouleaux bracelet and the manufacture Cal. B01 chronograph movement. However, rather than having black contrasting elements on its dial, the trio of registers and tachymeter scale appear in white, and the applied red gold hour markers are Eastern Arabic numerals, rather than the luminous baton-style indexes that are fitted to the commercially-available Breitling Chronomat B01 42 Giannis Antetokounmpo watches.
Given that Giannis Antetokounmpo has been with the Milwaukee Bucks for over a decade, the decision to create his signature edition watches in the colors of his team simply makes sense, as almost anyone who is a Giannis fan is virtually guaranteed to also be a fan of his team. That said, I would have personally liked to see some small elements of ice blue mixed into the design as a subtle nod to his Greek heritage, simply because this was his initial vision for the Breitling replica watches shop when he was first casually asked about it nearly a year and a half ago, and it would have been interesting to see his original vision come to complete fruition. RB01344A1L1S1) or $42,500 USD when paired with a matching red gold bracelet (ref. RB01344A1L1R1), which makes it the same price as the standard-catalog versions of the Chronomat B01 42 in red gold. While Breitling is a proudly Swiss company, many of its limited editions and collaborations have absolutely nothing to do with Switzerland, and just like the new Giannis Antetokounmpo models, they instead celebrate the brand’s partnerships, ambassadors, and the passions of the individuals who wear its best replica Breitling watches.
